This page is where the VMD publishes its formal public consultations. Public consultations are used by the VMD to inform stakeholders of changes to legislation, including fees and changes to our working practice.

The consultation process also provides a mechanism for stakeholders to influence and contribute to VMD policy decisions.

Consultations that have been completed can be found in the previous consultations page.

Following each consultation the VMD will prepare a summary of responses which will then be published on this website in line with the Government's Code of Practice on Consultation. Further guidance relating to consultations can be found in the Code of Practice on Consultation.

In line with Defra's policy of openness, at the end of the consultation period, unless an individual or company has not consented to publication of their responses, copies of the responses we receive are made publicly available through the Defra Information Resource Centre. The information they contain is also published in a summary of responses on the VMD's website.

The Information Resource Centre will supply copies of consultation responses to personal callers or in response to telephone or e-mail requests (Tel: 0207 238 6575, e-mail: defra.library@defra.gsi.gov.uk). Wherever possible, personal callers should give the library at least 24 hours notice of their requirements. An administrative charge will be made to cover photocopying and postage costs.
