Sheep Dips
Sheep are susceptible to ectoparasitic diseases including scab, blowfly strike, ticks, lice and keds. In extreme cases, sheep scab can lead to anaphylactic shock, which invariably leads to death. The veterinary medicinal products available to treat these diseases are listed in the Ectoparasitic product list. The products include sheep dips, pour-ons, drenches and injectables.
Both organophosphates (OPs) used in sheep dips and synthetic pyrethroids (SPs) used in pour-on products are potent substances and it is essential that they are handled with great care. There are a number of resources that give advice to farmers and others who handle sheep dip.
