Fees & Charges
Fees payable by industry:
The VMD is required to recover the costs of its activities in accordance with HM Treasury rules on fees and charges. The fees charged by the VMD are monitored and revised annually to ensure, as far as possible, that the fees for each particular service reflect the cost of the work undertaken. To minimise the impact of these fees on those charged the VMD continually strives to improve its efficiency and service delivery.
The current fees are set out in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2011 (Schedule 7) and these are summarised below by category.

1. New Marketing Authorisations
A fees menu calculator can be downloaded to analyse the fees payable for new Marketing Authorisation applications. Fees will be confirmed on validation of the application.

2. Annual Fees for Marketing Authorisations
Holders of UK Marketing Authorisations are required to pay annual fees to the VMD to cover ongoing service costs. The annual fees are made up of:
- a) a percentage of turnover in the previous calendar year; and
- b) a fixed amount for each authorisation from which sales have been recorded in the year.
The VMD relies on industry self-declaration for the turnover figures used to calculate the Annual Fees due.
