Open Meetings

The next VRC Open Meeting will be held on 11 September 2014 from 10:30am to 1pm at the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency near Weybridge, Surrey.

Previous Open Meetings have concentrated on the work of the VRC and the role of veterinary medicines in UK farming. This year the meeting will be focussing on specific topics and issues which we hope will be of special interest to our stakeholders. These are:

  1. What can the VRC do for you? – there is a plethora of information on the VRC website, but does this cover everything that stakeholders need from us?
  2. Results/Annual Report 2013 – a review of the significant results from the 2013 surveillance programme.
  3. Matrix Ranking – an explanation of the method the Committee uses to assist with risk-based decision making on surveillance. The current review of the system will also be discussed.
  4. Flukicides/possible impact of flooding on residues surveillance – the VRC will shortly publish a position paper on flukicides. The Committee is also looking at how long-term flooding of an area, such as that which has occurred in recent winters, can affect usage of veterinary medicines.
  5. Phenylbutazone in horses – an update on the VRC’s position paper first available in summer 2012 will also be published shortly. The current position will be examined.

Committee members will be available to answer questions after the presentations and also at the end of the meeting.
